T’was the night before Santacon…

T’was the night before Santacon, when all through Beijing…
Not a creature was stirring, not even a little thing,
The stockings were hung in the hutong with care,
In the hopes that St Nicholas soon would be there;
The future Santas were nestled all snug in their beds,
While visions of Saturday’s Santacon danced in their heads…

It’s Happening, Santas! SantaCon kicks off tomorrow morning at 11:00am with the Santa Suit-up at a single location: Brotzeit Bier Bar & Restaurant in the Grand Summit Mall, just steps from Liangmaqiao station, exit B! (Note: There is no Wudaokou starting point this year!) Bring your holiday best – layered for the cold, of course – and be ready for some serious holly-ing & jolly-ing! We’ll end our sleigh ride in Gulou with a special performance by Stevie Mac and the Mac Daddies at 4 Corners for everyone who’s still on Santa’s Nice List by the end of the night!

Be Prepared!

As always, SantaCon is absolutely free to attend! But you’re responsible for buying your own milk and cookies along the way, and for your public transit fares! So in addition to your warm layers, come with a charged-up WeChat Wallet and metro card!

Threads Available

For Santas who haven’t been able to order their own suits in time, elves and Helpers will be on hand with a limited number of Santa suits for purchase for ¥50 each. These suits are available on a first-come, first-served, basis, so if you don’t make it to the Suit Up kickoff, you could miss out!

Make A Difference

This year, Santa is supporting Maovember by raising money to help Bread of Life Bakery and The Library Project. 100% of money collected from the sale of Santa suits will be sent to Maovember. In addition, any Santas who already have suits are welcome to make donations! A donation of 毛500 (¥50) will get you this snazzy button to show off to all of your reindeer and elves!

You can learn more about Maovember here.

The Route

After folks have had a chance to gather together at Brotzeit, Santa will send out a message letting everybody know when it’s time to move on and the party will head out into the streets. Messages will be dispatched from the North Pole throughout the day revealing new locations, so listen for shouts from Santa’s helpers and look for messages on WeChat to help you find your way!

The Rules

For Santas who are new to SantaCon, please take a few moments to review Santa’s Rules to make sure that you stay on Santa”s Nice List!

See you soon, Santas!

5 things you can’t go to Santacon without, according to Mrs Claus

santa

  1. Santa suit.
Santa without a suit is like Beijing without jianbing: unrecognisable. Order, buy, make, beg, borrow, steal-get your Santa suit or be left feeling like Rudolph before Santa accepted him. Alternatively some Santa suits will be available for sale for charity on the day.
  2. Warm clothes.
Even the big man in red from the North Pole gets cold in Beijing’s freezing winter…make sure to stay warm. Be warned that charity Santa suits are unlikely to protect you from any weather. They will insulate holly and jolly though.
  3. Attitude and behaviour in line with avoiding serious naughty list.
Santa does not have a bail fund to help other Santas out of jail. At this time of year as all good boys and girls are wanting to get on Santa’s nice list, Santa is modelling best (grown-up) behaviour.
  4. Gifts and/or good Santa vibes.
Feel free to borrow some gifts from the Elves’ Christmas stockpile for Santacon Beijing observers and Santas. Candy or toys are acceptable for children and toys for good grown-ups are also allowed. Do not bring coal or mean gifts to give, as Santa hasn’t yet finalised his naughty list.
  5. Understanding that you are Santa.
All Santas are Santa! As such, address other Santas as “Santa”. Santacon is organised only by Santa, so if you are Santa then you are the organiser of Santacon.

Lastly, while Mrs Claus was happy to share this Buzzfeed-esque list, she reminds Santas to remain on the Nice list and do not talk to the press.

No Santa can speak for all Santas and Beijing Santas especially don’t like the press.

First cable from North Pole

Ho! Ho! Ho! Welcome all Santas to Beijing Santacon 2018. Santa’s elves will be sharing information about next Saturday December 1 on this website. Their first cable from the North Pole is regarding ways to remain on Santa’s “Nice” list.

1. Santa only gets out once a year so he makes sure he looks his best. A red hat does not a Santa make. If you aren’t able to get your Santa suit before next Saturday there will be some suits for sale on the day with all proceeds to charity.

2. Stay away from Santa’s “Naughty” List. Santa’s elves won’t tolerate any harassment. Santa’s reputation needs to be maintained, don’t be THAT Santa.

3. Remember to identify yourself and address your fellow Santas as “Santa”. Potentially even consider an alias change.

On the 10th day before Christmas, Santa sent to me…Beijing’s 10th Santacon!

Mark your calendars, boys and girls! This year the holly and the jolly will gather together on Saturday, December 1st for a fun-filled, cheer-spreading sleigh ride through the streets of Beijing!

Now in its 24th year, and celebrating its 10th anniversary in Beijing, SantaCon is the global non-denominational, non-religious and totally non-sensical celebration of all things Santa! If you’ve never heard of SantaCon, or to learn more about the event’s history and other SatnaCon events around the world, click here.

As usual, Santa will be teaming up with Beijing’s best venues across the city to facilitate much merriment. Plus, Santa will be helping to raise money for some wonderful charities through Maovember along the way.

The exact route that Santa, his elves and all of the reindeer will follow is top secret… as are the details surrounding the amazing after party & concert! He’ll be making his list and checking it twice all the way up until the night before, so stay tuned to this space and keep your eyes peeled on your favorite social media platform for updates sent out by Santa and his helpful elves.

There are lots of surprises in store this year! See you on December 1st!

Currently celebrating its 5th year, Maovember has become a Beijing-based institution that has spread to cities throughout China and around the Asia-Pacific region. It is an annual campaign that teams restaurants, bars, vendors and customers for good causes.

So far this year the folks behind Maovember, along with the collaborating venues, have raised almost 720,000 Mao (¥72,000) towards their 1 Million Mao goal (¥100,000) through events like the Mao’roccan Thanksgiving Feast at Caravan, the Mystery Wine Party at Q Bar, the Corn-Toss Classic at The Irish Volunteer, and many more. There is even a maniac who has vowed to walk 900 kilometers during the month of November to raise funds.
